About the Artist
Patricia paints nature seen through the lens of abstracted shapes. In her paintings of equines, she is always looking for and nudging into view, an arrangement of geometric shapes of color and light that bring the power, gentleness, and beauty of the horses to life.
She works in a variety of media but pastel is her primary creative tool. She enjoys its immediacy and range of qualities – from the graphic feel of hard pastels to the buttery sensation of the softest pastel brands.
Patricia received her BA in painting from Virginia Tech. In addition, she has studied with a number of other artists including Dawn Emerson a renowned pastel painter from Oregon. Her work has been exhibited and received awards in local, regional, national, and international exhibitions. Her paintings are in both private and corporate collections.
Patricia lives with her husband in Blacksburg. When not painting she might be found riding and studying dressage, the amazing human/equine partnerships of which inform all her paintings.
In addition to being a member of the VEAA, Patricia is a member of the Degas Pastel Society, the Southeastern Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of North Carolina, and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.
