This drawing is of a Quarter horse gelding named Roy, who was the very first horse I ever owned. The reference photo I used was taken the day we purchased him as my husband worked him in a round pen. Roy lived for years with a grade gelding we later owned who we called Jake. I created the background but used an old tree in the pasture next to our home as a model because I’ve always thought it had lots of character.

This drawing is of a Quarter horse mare named Holly who belongs to my cousin-in-law Derek. Derek’s wife CJ describes Holly as a “sassy and opinionated little madam” and I think that personality is what inspired me to drawing Holly. The reference photo was taken near Buffalo Gap, Virginia on a spring day a group of local cowboys were working calves.

This drawing is of a Quarter horse mare named Kim who belongs to a young cowboy named Randy who lives and works about an hour from where I live. I took the reference photo on a day that Randy and Kim were helping to work a group of calves near Buffalo Gap, Virginia. Randy had just mounted and Kim was giving nicely to him as they prepared to enter the arena to begin work.
