Donnerlicht is a 17hh Danish Warmblood gelding owned by E. Lewis of Charlottesville, Virginia and ridden by A. Aloi, also of Charlottesville, at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington. The painting was inspired by the presence, dedication, and focus of the rider and horse early on a misty, foggy morning.

Sandy is a 16.2hh Belgian mare at Hamilton Farms in Orange, Virginia. The painting was inspired by the patience, kindness and willingness of the mare with a small child on his first lesson.
Jan Tyrell ~ Artist
Jan's love for horses and dogs started early in life as did her passion for art. She grew up on the family farm in Ipsiwich, Ma, which cultivated her ability to pursue her dreams. Jan's childhood beginning was the start of a long journey dedicated to both. Her time spent with horses has afforded her the understanding of the deep personal bond we all have shared with our animals and has carried over into her art with first hand knowledge of their beauty and grace. Jan's ability to capture the essence of her subject's nobility and character in the hallmark of her work.
Throughout her professional career, she has received national recognition in the arts as well as advertising and design. Today Jan now lives in Central Virginia where she continues her life long tradition of art and horses. Her 4 legged companions today include her horse and her German Shepherd, who she lovingly shares with her husband Phil.
